Judge’s ruling temporarily frees Montana abortion clinics from new licensing requirements

Abortion clinics in Montana won’t be subject to new licensing requirements — ones their lawyers said could shut them down — at least for the time being. Last week, a Lewis and Clark County District Court judge said the licensing requirements imposed by House Bill 937 from the 2023 Montana Legislature are likely to violate patients’ rights to equal protection.

Birth control on the ballot as abortion bans increase barriers to family planning

"Millions of Americans will be able to vote on November ballots whether to protect access to contraception.  In states where tensions have long boiled over reproductive rights, family planning experts say women face mounting barriers to getting birth control. The fear, confusion and anxiety over abortion has extended to their ability to prevent a pregnancy...."

Faced with obstacles to abortion, military women have built their own support system

“Air Force Staff Sgt. Octavia James has helped fellow airmen navigate the difficult choices faced by women in the military when they are contemplating an abortion. People usually seek James out when they don’t feel comfortable going to a commanding officer. She has invited airmen to stay in her apartment in Norfolk, Va., while they recover from an abortion. Opinion: Expanding abortion access strengthens democracy, while abortion bans signal broader repression

Abortion is on the agenda not just in the United States but worldwide. A majority of people in developed democracies increasingly favor abortion rights and self-determination. Reproductive health care in the Southeast hinges on Florida abortion-rights measure, doctors say

Dr. Cherise Felix says a recent patient yelled and swore at her before eventually hugging her, grateful she would no longer have to carry the planned-for baby that had died inside her. She was able to see this patient, who was about 17 weeks pregnant, because of the abortion law’s limited health exceptions. But before coming to the clinic, the miscarrying patient was turned away by another OB-GYN, something Felix said happens regularly since the ban.

AJPH Study Shows That Most Abortion Restrictive US States Provide the Least Support for Pregnant Women

The United States Supreme Court’s ruling on the Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization case in June 2024 revoked constitutionally guaranteed access to abortion for women. Since the ruling, 14 US states have placed a complete ban on abortions, while others have banned abortion during the 6 to 18 weeks gestation period. In the US, minoritized people and people of low socioeconomic status suffer from disproportionately low access to safe abortions — a situation made worse by the geographical barriers created by post-Dobbs abortion restriction policies. However, people who support post-Dobbs restrictions insist that the policies can help protect children, women and families.

The Activists Working to Abolish IVF

In the last few years, more than a dozen states have enacted laws that ban almost all abortions. Some include exceptions for rape, incest, and to protect the life of the mother. But a small, vocal group of anti-abortion activists say even these exceptions are morally wrong. They want to see a ban not only on all abortions but also on some fertility treatments, including IVF. They believe an embryo deserves the same rights as any human.
