Judge’s ruling temporarily frees Montana abortion clinics from new licensing requirements

Abortion clinics in Montana won’t be subject to new licensing requirements — ones their lawyers said could shut them down — at least for the time being. Last week, a Lewis and Clark County District Court judge said the licensing requirements imposed by House Bill 937 from the 2023 Montana Legislature are likely to violate patients’ rights to equal protection.

AJPH Study Shows That Most Abortion Restrictive US States Provide the Least Support for Pregnant Women

The United States Supreme Court’s ruling on the Dobbs v Jackson Women’s Health Organization case in June 2024 revoked constitutionally guaranteed access to abortion for women. Since the ruling, 14 US states have placed a complete ban on abortions, while others have banned abortion during the 6 to 18 weeks gestation period. In the US, minoritized people and people of low socioeconomic status suffer from disproportionately low access to safe abortions — a situation made worse by the geographical barriers created by post-Dobbs abortion restriction policies. However, people who support post-Dobbs restrictions insist that the policies can help protect children, women and families.

In Russia, International Safe Abortion Day Is a Reminder of Reproductive Rights Backsliding

Women’s rights activists across the globe on Saturday marked International Safe Abortion Day.  But for many in Russia, the occasion was a bitter reminder of how far the country’s government has backtracked on its once-liberal abortion policies, leaving thousands of women with increasingly limited access to safe, affordable and timely abortion care.
