Woman said she went into sepsis before she could get lifesaving abortion care in Texas

"A Texas woman said she had to wait until she developed sepsis before physicians could provide her with lifesaving abortion care. Texas has several abortion bans in place that prohibit nearly all abortions, except when a mother's life is at risk or there is a risk of serious bodily harm. The state has civil and criminal penalties for performing banned abortions. One of the bans prohibits abortions after fetal cardiac activity has been detected, which meant that doctors couldn't provide her immediate emergency care, which she would have had access to in states where abortion is not banned or restricted...."

Nikki Haley: Federal abortion ban is unrealistic

"Instituting a federal abortion ban is not “realistic,” Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley said Sunday. “I’m not going to lie to the American people. Nothing’s going to happen if we don’t get 60 votes in the Senate. We’re not even close to that on the Republican or the Democrat side.” Haley said on CBS’ “Face the Nation,” when pressed about what kind of limits on abortion she would seek if elected president...."

State lawmakers must pass the resolution again in 2025 before it would go before voters as a ballot question in 2026. If passed, the resolution would provide the highest level of state protection for not only abortion rights, but also other reproductive access, including postpartum…

"These laws have created confusion, with pregnant Texans and doctors reporting issues with emergency pregnancy care, miscarriage treatment and even getting accurate pregnancy information. Five women filed a lawsuit in March, alleging that they were denied medically necessary abortions due to “widespread confusion among the medical community” about how and when health care workers can provide abortions...." "... While abortion has largely taken a back seat, the Legislature has stayed busy on issues ranging from property taxes to immigration to efforts to ban drag shows and gender-affirming care for trans children...."

Rape, incest exceptions to Louisiana abortion ban rejected by GOP lawmakers

“I simply do not understand how we as a state can tell any victim that she must be forced by law to carry her rapist’s baby to term, regardless of the impact on her own physical or mental health, the wishes of her parents, or the medical judgment of her physician,” said Democratic Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards, who supports abortion restrictions but believes there should be exceptions. “As I have said before, rape and incest exceptions protect crime victims. We must do all that we can to protect them and sadly, the committee failed to do so today.”

Could ‘single subject rule’ trip up merger of abortion and anti-trans bills?

Nebraska Constitution requires bills to have ‘no more than one subject,’ but the clause is mostly untested in court  "A blockbuster pairing of two controversial bills in the waning days of the 2023 state legislative session has state senators and advocates buzzing. But could a state constitutional requirement that bills contain only a “single subject” trip up the merging of a 12-week ban on abortions into a proposal to ban minors from having gender-affirming surgeries?..."
